The oldest grocery store in
the state of North Carolina!
Historic Thompson’s Store – the oldest grocery store in the state of North Carolina!
This family-owned business was founded in 1890 and moved to its current location in 1940. In recent years, our old-timey grocery store has expanded its famous full-service meat market, where you can find an array of hand-cut meats as well as our signature Charlie’s Sage Sausage, and added a delicious deli section, along with new selections of gourmet items, fine wines, craft beers, cheeses and fresh produce.
We are also famous for our official Coon Dog Day merchandise, featuring T-shirts, ball caps and visors, sweatshirts and more. Learn more about Saluda’s renowned Coon Dog Day here.
Next door is Ward’s Grill, Saluda’s classic diner since 1960. Ward’s Grill is temporarily closed but will reopen in the spring of 2021. At that time, be sure to pop in for a down-home hearty breakfast or a great lunch featuring our popular cheeseburgers and handspun milkshakes so thick you might need a spoon.
