The oldest grocery store in
the state of North Carolina!
Historic Thompson’s Store–the oldest grocery store in the state of North Carolina!
This family-owned business was founded in 1890 and moved to its current location in 1940. In recent years, our old-timey grocery store has expanded its famous full-service meat market (where you can find our signature product, Charlie’s Sage Sausage) and added a delicious deli section, along with new selections of wine, beer, cheese, and fresh produce.
We are also famous for our official Coon Dog Day merchandise, featuring t-shirts, ball caps and visors, sweatshirts, and more. Learn more about Saluda’s renowned Coon Dog Day here.
Finally, don’t forget to pop in next door at Ward’s Grill for a down-home hearty breakfast, or a great lunch featuring our popular cheeseburgers and handspun milkshakes so thick you might need a spoon!
